Kelantan Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry seize 2,308kg of subsidised cooking oil in Pasir Puteh

KOTA BHARU - The Kelantan Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry seized 2,308 kilograms (kg) of subsidised cooking oil worth RM46,454 after raiding a store situated behind a workshop repairing lorries at Padang Pak Amat, Pasir Puteh yesterday.

Kelantan Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry director Azman Ismail said the raid was carried out under ‘Ops Mencegah Ketirisan Barang Kawalan’ (Ops to prevent embezzlement of Controlled Items) at 2 pm, following the detention of a lorry driver after the lorry that was believed to have been used for smuggling subsidised cooking oil had overturned near Kampung Gaung, Pasir Mas on Monday.

"When the raid was carried out at the store behind the workshop, a 65-year-old woman was busy cutting 1kg subsidised cooking oil packets and transferring the oil into a container.

"Apart from finding 1kg plastic bags that were cut open, enforcement officers also found 12 large containers filled with 64kg coking oil and labelled as chemical. The containers are believed to used for smuggling subsidised cooking oil to neighbouring countries through the sea route,” he said.

Azman was speaking to reporters during a press conference held at the ministry Store at the Padang Tembak Industrial Park in Pengkalan Chepa, here today.

During the raid, the ministry also sized 240kg of sugar, a lorry and equipment used for transferring oil and the case will be investigated under the Control of Supplies Act 1961 and Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001 (AMLA). - BERNAMA
