SHAH ALAM – The Transport Ministry has officially set August 2024 as the deadline for the conclusive report of the unfortunate August 17 aviation tragedy at the Guthrie Highway at Bandar Elmina, Selangor.

The announcement of one-year deadline was announced today following the publication of the crash’s preliminary report which, for now, essentially eliminated the pilot, crew, quality of the aircraft and weather conditions as being the exact cause of the accident.

“The Final Report of the investigation will be completed no later than August 2024, in accordance with the ICAO Annex 13, which allows for a 12-month period to finalise the document following the accident.

“The Preliminary Report shall be regarded as tentative and is subject to alteration or correction if additional evidence becomes available. This report contains statements of facts and preliminary findings which have been determined up to the time of issue of the report.

“The Ministry of Transport expresses appreciation for the diligent efforts of the AAIB (Air Accident Investigation Bureau) and is committed to enhancing aviation safety based on the bureau’s findings,” read the ministry’s statement.

The ministry also conveyed its deepest gratitude to the National Transportation Safety Board of the USA and the Transport Safety Investigation Bureau of Singapore for their assistance in the AAIB’s investigation.

The accident involved a Beechcraft Model 390 Premier 1 aircraft that departed from Langkawi International Airport and crashed en route to Subang Airport.

This tragedy claimed 10 lives, including eight passengers and crew on board the aircraft and 2 ground bystanders.
