SHAH ALAM - Hulu Kelang assemblyman Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali has been appointed as the Opposition leader in Selangor effective today.

The announcement was made by the Selangor State Assembly Speaker Lau Weng San at the First Meeting (Oath-taking) of the First Term of the 15th Selangor State Assembly.

Lau said his party received a letter from Selangor Perikatan Nasional (PN) on Sept 15 to nominate Azmin as the Opposition leader.

"The Opposition leader has been appointed and it has been agreed that he can carry out his responsibilities well, congratulations," he said.

The position of Opposition leader last term belonged to Sungai Air Tawar assemblyman from Barisan Nasional (BN), Datuk Rizam Ismail.

However, Pakatan Harapan (PH) and BN joined forces in the state election.

The combination of PH and BN then won the state election on Aug 12 after holding 34 out of 56 state legislative assembly, thus forming the state government for the 15th term.
