KUALA LUMPUR - Action can be taken against any Member of Parliament (MP) for using their official allocations for their personal use or for the personal use of others.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said action could be taken by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), and that the matter could be categorised as corruption.

“I want to remind you, if these allocations are used for other purposes such as it being given to those getting married and such, action can be taken by MACC.

“You can’t (use funds allocated for representatives for such purposes),” he said in the 12th Malaysia Plan 12MP Mid Term Review (MTR) wrap up session in Dewan Rakyat on Tuesday.

Ketereh MP Datuk Khlir Mohd Nor previously claimed he was forced to use his own funds for charity while visiting those who recently died in his area.

Khlir was reported stating his central office was also unable to operate as it did not have the allocation to do so.

He hoped Anwar would be fair towards all MPs in the opposition bloc by giving them appropriate allocations.
