'There are signs of selective prosecution' - Hasnal Rezua Merican

SHAH ALAM – The discharge not amounting to an acquittal (DNAA) case involving Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi gives an impression of signs of selective prosecution.

Advocate Datuk Hasnal Rezua Merican said the actions of the Attorney-General who made the decision need to be better refined.

"I dare to say that there are signs that show selective prosecution from this Attorney General only, I am not talking about those before," he claimed.

He said this when he was a panellist on the Sinar Wacana series 413 entitled 'DNAA: Dilemma of the Public Prosecutor's decision' hosted by Ismail Adnan yesterday.

When asked about the influence of members of the public who partially disagreed with the DNAA's decision, Hasnal said the matter rarely influenced any decision at the executive, legislative or judicial level.

"Nothing has changed, so I think that this is an episode that happened in the community and I am not interested in talking about the political aspect of this matter.

"This is because the matter being discussed is whether the Attorney-General's decision can be defended or not.

"If it angers the people and you want to change it, what do you want to change? Is it by rejecting the Attorney General's authority?" he questioned.
