KOTA BHARU - Kelantan police reveal 188 students were victims of sexual crimes in the Cik Siti Wan Kembang state this year.

State police chief Datuk Muhamad Zaki Harun said statistics show 153 cases involved high school students, while 35 cases were primary school students, with the youngest victim being nine-years-old.

“254 cases were recorded for underage rape from 2021 to September 2023,” he said in a press conference at the Kelantan Contingent Police Headquarters (IPK) here on Wednesday.

He said the modus operandi were done through interactions on social media such as TikTok, Instagram, and also being introduced by friends and such.

The cases were caused from victims who were at a young age and not realising the risks they face from such interactions.

Zaki said he was called upon to jointly address the issues which involve including the placement of a school liaison officer from police officers and personnel to prevent such criminal behaviours in addition to the Children’s Inquiry Centre (CIC).

“Other than drugs, sexual crimes were among the problems to be addressed among students as it was quite significant,” he said.
