Kasim Samat is PN candidate for Pelangai by-election

BENTONG - Perikatan Nasional (PN) has once again chosen Bentong Pas deputy president as its candidate for the Pelangai by-election on Oct 7.

Pas deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man announced Kasim as PN’s candidate, stating that all component parties had agreed to it.

"The party (Pas) received a list of three candidates---we discussed it in the Syura Council and agreed that all three were qualified.

"We discussed who was the best, and we looked at who was closest to voters. A candidate from Pelangai, someone who lives here,” he said during the candidate announcement held at Simpang Pelangai here tonight.

Kasim, 62, had contested the Pelangai state seat during the 15th general election and lost to Barisan Nasional’s Datuk Seri Johari Harun with a majority of 4,048 votes.

A former secondary school and matriculation college teacher, Kasim said he was grateful to be entrusted with the task of contested by the PN leadership.

"I accept and promise to work for everyone in Pelangai,” he added.

The Pelangai by-election, which will take place on Oct 7, is held following Johari’s death in a plane crash in Shah Alam, Selangor on Aug 17.

Nominations will be held on Sept 23 with early voting on Oct 3. - BERNAMA
