‘Vital for Muda to strengthen party before growing influence’ – Syed Saddiq

SHAH ALAM - The Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda) president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman says the party is dedicated to remaining an independent political force, focusing on strengthening the party before growing its influence.

He also highlighted the importance of addressing shared concerns within the opposition bloc while advocating for fairness and justice in political negotiations.

When asked how the party, as a third force with no allies would highlight bread-and-butter issues, Syed Saddiq acknowledged that the road ahead when pursued independently, would be challenging and filled with obstacles.

"We will address collective issues within any political alliance, but it is crucial for Muda to showcase its strength first to expand our influence.

"Diligent work and adherence to principles that resonate with the public are vital.

"Our organisation must be strong before addressing other concerns. When we are strong, our issues will be heard," Syed Saddiq told Sinar.

The Muar MP said to represent Muda's leadership, it had decided to focus on being the opposition bloc.

"Here, we can collectively address issues like the DNAA (discharge not amounting to an acquittal) matter, food security, quality education, and the cost of living.

"These are shared concerns we can champion together. Muda's choice is to remain as a third force or third bloc,” he said.

On the other hand, he said he was open to discussions with the unity government, but fairness was essential.

“The government must clarify conditions and allocations for all, avoiding injustice. Punishing people for political choices is not the hallmark of a developed country,” he said.

Hence, Syed Saddiq advised the government not to forget their responsibility to young people and their commitment to genuine reform.

"This should remind those in power not to underestimate others, respect the voices of the people and honouring promises made during elections.

"Don't forget the mandate's significance,” he said.
