No problem to negotiate, meet and discuss – Syed Saddiq
SHAH ALAM – The Malaysian United Democratic Alliance President Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman says he has no problem meeting up with the unity government to discuss allocation for the people.
However, he said that those in power should be fair and set the same term for the opposition as it was set for government MPs.
“I want to negotiate, meet and discuss, there is no problem but how do we negotiate? Do we need to bring a proposal?
“Can, but will the same terms be imposed as government MP? Does it mean that we (the opposition) will get RM100,000 but the rest receive RM 4 million?,” he told Sinar.
Syed Saddiq said that it needed to be straightened out so that the people know what was happening and they realise of the unfairness.
He said that the people were being punished for their political choices, which should not happen in a developing country.
“Is this a country that we want to leave for the youth? Is this the reform that we want to start?” he said.
He commented on this when asked about the opposition’s allocation which was not given but offers were made through discussions.
He said after eight months in administration, the government had delayed progress with lengthy meetings and negotiations, leaving the people suffering, especially in efforts to eradicate poverty.
"When we meet up, (they) said need to agree with terms and conditions which I feel deliberate to prolong but the question is, who is burdened by it? The people in the area.
“As representatives of the people, we aim to build homes, provide healthcare, and offer monthly assistance.
"Unfortunately, these resources have been depleted, punishing the people for reasons related to their choices or political affiliations.
"This outdated approach hinders our nation's progress and sets a worrisome precedent for future governments," Syed Saddiq said.
However, he mentioned that each Member of Parliament receives around RM4 million, primarily allocated for development projects and grants to support various community needs.
Despite government claims that existing departments can handle these allocations, the necessity of these funds remains evident.
"It's crucial to ensure fairness and transparency in these allocations, even for government MPs, to prevent further turmoil in our country."
