SHAH ALAM - Central Pas Ulama Council (DUPP) has urged Ipoh Timur MP Howard Lee Chuan How to apologise over his action expressing misleading and inappropriate views regarding the interpretation of Quranic verses.

DUPP chief Datuk Ahmad Yahaya said Quranic verses should not be loosely and carelessly interpreted even though it was not wrong for non-Muslims to appreciate the verses.

“Unfortunately, Lee was not only being irresponsible in his statements, but until now, he has not apologised or retracted his remarks.

“Doesn’t such statement fall under the category of offences related to race, religion and royalty (3R)?.

“DUPP wonders whether there were those in Pakatan Harapan (PH) who were ready to advise Lee on the matter.

“What are PH’s real principles on such issues that it appears that this fundamental matter remains unresolved,” he said in a statement, today.

Ahmad further said that Lee’s actions can be seen as insulting the teachings of Islam.

He alleged that the situation clearly indicated that DAP has dominated PH, to the extent that the hands and feet of other parties were tied, even when dealing directly with matters related to Islam.
