IPOH - The 4G coverage in Perak for the second quarter of this year has achieved 97.38 per cent, the State Assembly was told today.

State Communications, Multimedia and Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) Committee chairman Mohd Azlan Helmi said 92 of the 206 new transmission towers planned under the National Digital Network Plan (Jendela) were ready for operation, while 321,620 of the 386,758 premises now had access to fibre connectivity.

The installation of satellite broadband services or Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) at 73 locations planned under Jendela is also completed, he said during the question-and-answer session at the State Assembly sitting here today.

He was responding to a question from Wong Chai Yi (PH-Simpang Pulai) on the status of the implementation of the Jendela programme.

The state government, he said, remained committed to accelerating the expansion of 5G technology to all levels of society and had established a special task force or Greater Ipoh 5G Taskforce Committee, which is made up of various technical agencies, for the purpose.

"Among other approaches taken include suggesting faster work procedures, revising the checklist and making an orderly and systematic implementation plan”, he added.

He said the state government, through the relevant local government authorities, had implemented a programme to replace street lights with smart poles in an effort to speed up the implementation and provide telecommunications coverage, particularly in densely populated areas.

So far, 34 smart poles have been installed in the Ipoh city, he added. - BERNAMA
