McDonald’s customer forces staff to charge him for extra chilli sauce packets

SHAH ALAM - A McDonald’s customer who claimed that he had to pay RM10.60 for 10 packets of extra chilli sauce had allegedly forced the fast food restaurant’s staff to charge him for the packets.

In a statement, McDonald’s Malaysia said after conducting an internal investigation and reviewing the closed-circuit television (CCTV) recording at its Taman Buaya outlet in Melaka where the incident allegedly happened, it discovered that there was an initial oversight on their end where the customer was provided with an insufficient amount of chilli sauce unintentionally.

However, it said when the McDonald’s staff promptly provided additional packets of chilli sauce when the customer requested for it, the latter became extremely irate and verbally aggressive towards the staff.

It said the customer then insisted on paying for the extra 10 packets and forced the staff to issue a receipt of the purchase.

"Despite our crew's attempts to clarify that the chilli sauce is provided free of charge, the customer angrily insisted on being charged for the 10 packets," it said in addressing the recent incident.

McDonald’s also expressed disappointment over the customer’s action towards its staff and for posting inaccurate information about the incident on social media.

In light of the incident, McDonald’s lodged a police report to ensure the safety of its staff

"We would like to reiterate that McDonald's Malaysia offers all our customers chilli sauce at no additional cost," it said.

Previously, a social media post went viral stating that McDonald's allegedly charged RM10.60 for 10 packets of chilli sauce at one of its outlets in Ayer Keroh, Melaka.
