ALOR SETAR - Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor anticipates the positions of Pas president and deputy president will not be contested in the upcoming Pas annual general assembly next month.

He said no individual or Pas member will step forward to challenge Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang and Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, as both leaders were still relevant to leading the party.

He said Pas has never imposed restrictions on anyone running for the two top positions in the party. However, it is understood that no candidates have come forward to contest these positions so far.

"In Pas, there is freedom to run for posts, and there have never been any barriers or prohibitions. Anyone who wishes to contest can do so, but no one has stepped forward to contest the positions of president and deputy president.

"If no one wants to contest, we can't force people to do so. If they don't want to, then that's it. That's why I believe there will be no competition for these two positions," he said at a press conference after chairing an exco meeting at Wisma Darul Aman here today.

Sanusi added that there were no issues concerning the two top Pas leaders, and they have the full support of the grassroots.

"I haven't heard any issues; there are no issues within Pas either. In other parties, there are bans on running for office because they make the decision that there will be no competition for the president and deputy president positions.

"In Pas, there is no such thing, and it is up to Pas to be open-minded. Whoever feels qualified, please offer yourself," he said.

He said the last election took place in 2015, when Ahmad Awang challenged Abdul Hadi and Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu challenged Tuan Ibrahim, but both were defeated.

"Many others also lost for other positions at that time, which led to the formation of the Parti Amanah Negara," he said.
