SHAH ALAM - Tanah Merah Member of Parliament Datuk Seri Ikmal Hisham Abdul Aziz is prepared to be punished according to the rules of the Dewan Rakyat if proven guilty of smoking an electronic cigarette (vape) in Parliament on Sept 19.

Ikmal said he would give full cooperation in the probe into the incident.

He said he had submitted an explanatory memo to the Dewan Rakyat Secretary Dr Nizam Mydin Bacha Mydin in Parliament at 3pm today.

"On Sept 21, I received a letter from the Dewan Rakyat Secretary's Office asking for an explanation regarding the vaping incident in the Dewan Rakyat on Sept 19.

"Through the memo, I strongly deny vaping because I am not a smoker. At that time, I was only spontaneously holding a pen placed on my lips but was misunderstood.

"I also requested Yang Berhormat Tan Sri Datuk Johari Abdul to watch the CCTV footage to clear my name as a member of Parliament.

"If it is proven true that I have committed an act that violates the rules of the meeting, Yang Berhormat Tan Sri (Johari) can take strict action and the most severe punishment according to the rules of the Dewan Rakyat to be imposed on me," he said when contacted on Wednesday.

Previously, a photo of Ikmal allegedly vaping went viral on social media when photographer to the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Sadiq Asyraf, uploaded the image on X.

Ikmal also said he had asked Sadiq to submit all the photos taken in Parliament.

"It is impossible for a photographer to snap only one photo. So, it would be better if he submitted all the photos he took to prove whether it was true or not that I vape.

"If his (Sadiq) accusation is untrue, then I request the Speaker to take action on him under Meeting Rule 98," he stressed.
