SHAH ALAM - The people will have a solid victory if the DuitNow QR transaction charge on merchants is cancelled.

MCA president Wee Ka Siong said that Bank Negara would decide its execution since it was the largest shareholder in the company PayNet which was the owner and operator of DuitNow QR.

"CIMB Bank announced that it will postpone the transaction charge for two months while Public Bank and Maybank will announce the postponement to another date later.

"Well done netizens! We have won! We will wait and see if other banks will defer as well," he wrote on Facebook today.

Last Sept 26, a local banking institution announced a transaction fee for DuitNow QR payments and transactions made with credit cards effective on Nov 1.

Through Sinar Harian's survey, small traders did not agree with the idea which was perceived as a burden considering that the profit from the business is not much.

Meanwhile, a survey across a comment section found social media users thanking Wee for voicing out the concerns of Malaysians in regard to the issue.
