Felda younger generations should seize opportunity for a career in TVET

BENTONG - The younger generations of Felda should grab the 50,000 places offered by the government to further their studies in the field of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).

This is because TVET provides the skills and training needed in skill-based careers.

Pahang-born Ahmad Daniel Haqimiey Ahmad Rajula, 20, who is learning welding at a TVET institution in Perak, said he took up the course because he saw the future for a career in this vocation.

"I’m really interested in this field, it is no loss since it gives me exposure to welding which I see is a career that is often in demand.

"When the government gives this kind of opportunity to the people of Felda, I hope other friends of mine too will also take up this facility... it is an opportunity to improve our standard of living and help our families,” he told Bernama at Felda Chemomoi here today.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said today as many as 50,000 places are available for the young generations of Felda to further their education in TVET.

Zahid, who is also chairman of the National TVET Council, said the opportunity was offered in more than 1,300 TVET institutions to the second-to-fifth generations of Felda, with courses provided in line with the country’s employment needs.

For the second generation of Felda Chemomoi, Wan Nur Alisa Meor Ismail, 24, who is also a trader, said the government’s proactive measures are a good initiative and can be best utilised by young people like her.

The mother of one child is of the opinion that by equipping oneself with the skills offered, the new knowledge gained will make it easier for youths to secure a job or open a business.

"I think it is better to take up TVET because indirectly, we can increase our knowledge and skills in this field, whether it is to work with others or alone,” she said.

Meanwhile, a settler’s son Z. Rosmizam Abdul Rahman, 44, said it would be a loss for Felda youth if they forego TVET after the government has given the ‘privilege’ to this group.

He also suggested that a TVET institution be established in Pelangai to make it convenient for youths in the area to upskill.

"Even now, I see young people repairing their own motorbikes so it would be even better if they continued learning more of this in TVET so that they could continue upskilling... as we are still young, I personally would not let this opportunity given by the government go to waste,” he said. - BERNAMA
