4,286 new students selected to further studies at UKM
KUALA LUMPUR - A total of 4,286 new students were selected to further their studies at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) for the 2023/2024 academic session for all study programmes.
UKM vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Mohd Ekhwan Toriman said this year the university received a total of 49,484 applications.
"Of the total, only 4,286 were eligible and selected to be part of UKM. The morning registration session involved students from Johor, Kedah, Kelantan, Pahang, Penang, Perlis, Terengganu, Sabah, Sarawak, and Labuan.
"Students from Negeri Sembilan, Melaka, Perak, Selangor, Putrajaya and Kuala Lumpur registered in the afternoon session at their respective colleges," he said in a statement.
He said 1,865 students are from low-income (B40) households and four are people with disabilities, adding that this intake also includes four Orang Asli students and five pairs of twins.
"New students will undergo a five-day induction programme or Minggu Apresisi Watan MAW) from today until Oct 4.
He said 27 new UKM students from households with an income of RM1,000 or less, also received aid from the university through the Jejak Anak Watan Programme, where visits were made to the prospective students’ homes to deliver aid directly to them.
"The students received a financial assistance of RM1,000 in cash and a Rahmah basket containing RM200 worth of hostel essentials were given to those who came to register today. - BERNAMA
