BENTONG - Perikatan Nasional (PN) candidate for the Pelangai constituency, Kasim Samat, is optimistic that he will be able to secure a 100 per cent victory in the by-election.

"I believe I can secure a 100 per cent victory, given the two weeks I have spent campaigning.

"Even though my campaign was on a small scale, I went from house to house of the Pelangai residents.

"No one has given me negative signals; in fact, they have expressed strong support for PN this time around," Kasim told a press conference after casting his vote at SMK Chemomoi today.

Kasim, also known as Cikgu Kasim, arrived at the polling station at 8.22am wearing a white Baju Melayu together with his wife, Nor Atiqah Abu Bakar, 55.

"This morning, my wife and I went to cast our votes together here," Kasim said.

Kasim also urged Pelangai voters to perform their civic duty as early as possible.

"The meteorological department predicts rain later in the afternoon, so I urge Pelangai residents to come out and vote.

"For Pelangai voters outside of the constituency, you still have time to return to your hometown to vote and fulfill your responsibilities," he added.

The polling station was tightly monitored by Election Commission (EC) personnel and policemen for crowd control.

Kasim's two opponents, Datuk Amizar Abu Adam from the Barisan Nasional (BN) and independent candidate Haslihelmy DM Zulhasni, did not participate in the voting process.
