BENTONG - Perikatan Nasional (PN) candidate Kasim Samat inadvertently urged voters to support him after casting his vote in the Pelangai by-election, but he quickly retracted his statement and admitted his mistake, claiming he was unaware of his actions.

Kasim, also known as Cikgu Kasim allegedly slipped up when approached by reporters at the Felda Chemomoi Secondary School polling centre for the election.

The official campaign period for the Pelangai by-election ended at 11.59pm on Oct 6.

According to the regulations set by the Election Commission (EC), all parties must cease any campaigning activities, including appealing for votes, outside the polling centre and on social media platforms after the specified period.

Under Article 48(e) of the Election Offences Act 1954, the EC has the right to invalidate the victory of any candidate if there are reports and evidence of campaigning activities on polling day.
