Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar said that this would supplement the RM10 million already allocated to the centre, enhancing its functionality in curbing the spread of such crimes in the country.
While tabling the national budget today, he said that the centre has dealt with more than 49,000 cases and has successfully frozen transactions worth RM60 million.
"Bank Negara Malaysia, in collaboration with the country's financial sector, is in the process of developing the National Fraud Portal (NFP), expected to be completed by mid-2024.
"With automated fund tracking capabilities, it is hoped that this portal will expedite the tracking, freezing, and refunding of funds.
"In the meantime, relevant agencies are examining the need to amend laws, including the Criminal Procedure Code, to enable more effective action against syndicates and mule accounts, thereby expediting the process of returning money to scam victims,"he added.
