Budget 2024: Entertainment tax cuts in federal territories

SHAH ALAM: The government will reduce the current 25 per cent entertainment tax in the federal territories, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today.

He said stage local stage performers will no longer need to pay tax, while theme parks, family recreation centres, indoor game centres, and simulators will only be taxed by five per cent.

“A 10 per cent reduction will be imposed for entertainment tax for stage performances by international artists and other forms of entertainment such as film screenings,sporting and game events,” he said when tabling the Madani Malaysia Budget 2024.

Anwar said the government plans to establish a special income tax rate ranging from 0 to 10% for film production companies, foreign film actors, and film crews shooting movies in Malaysia.

As a form of recognition and the highest form of appreciation for individuals in the arts, culture, and heritage sectors, the government will once again reinstate the Anugerah Seni Negara, Anwar said.
