Eleven journalists died in an Israeli airstrike in Gaza
ANKARA – The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) reports that at least 11 journalists lost their lives in the recent Israeli airstrike on the Gaza Strip on Friday.
The airstrike also resulted in the unfortunate death of a Reuters videographer in southern Lebanon and left two Al Jazeera television journalists from Doha injured.
The CPJ's data shows that within the initial seven days of the ongoing conflict, a total of 11 journalists were killed, two went missing, and two others sustained injuries.
Notably, on Oct 13, a Beirut-based journalist was killed during an Israeli military strike in southern Lebanon.
As the airstrikes continued in Gaza, CPJ underscores the substantial risks faced by journalists reporting on the evolving situation.
"CPJ underlines that journalists are civilians who perform crucial work in times of crises and cannot be attacked by the opposing forces.
"Journalists that cover wars in the region often sacrifice a lot.
"To bring an end to this staggering death toll, all parties must take action to protect their safety," stated program coordinator for CPJ's West Asia and North Africa region, Sherif Mansour.
