SHAH ALAM - Amid global challenges, every act, whether significant or minimal, can play a role in shedding light on the Palestinian liberation movement.

Viva Palestina Malaysia's Azra Banu stresses the importance of individual support, highlighting that it is not only commendable but essential in addressing the persistent issues faced by Palestinians. "When brands like dUCk, champion this cause, their outreach can span thousands, if not millions.

“The more businesses that join this movement, the further the message can spread,” Azra told Sinar Daily when contacted.

Drawing an analogy, Azra likens this trend to sports fandom.

"Fans ardently display allegiance to their teams by donning team colors and merchandise, echoing their unwavering support.

"However, this parallel only goes so far. While sports support primarily focuses on entertainment, advocating for political causes like Palestine bears life-altering implications.

"Surprisingly, this seasonality isn't a drawback; it's a testament to the enduring importance of Palestine in people's hearts and minds," he said.

"Whether it's a Palestinian flag patch on a jacket or a slogan on a T-shirt, these symbols signify support.

“However, the key difference becomes evident when comparing sports fandom to political activism.

“In sports, cheering for a team and wearing its colours serves primarily for entertainment.

“Game outcomes may bring joy or disappointment, but they don't carry the weight of life-and-death implications or broader political consequences," he added.

On the other hand, in light of the recent Instagram post that has sparked controversy, Malaysian fashion entrepreneur and dUCk founder Vivy Yusof has faced criticism for their latest collection, 'The Palestine dUCk', intended to show solidarity with the Palestinian cause.

However, the post in question has garnered a flurry of comments, with many users expressing their arguments.

Addressing the matter, Vivy stated that people had requested for dUCk to bring the collection back as they wanted to wear the items to show solidarity with Palestine.

Vivy also reiterated that dUCk was not taking any money from the collection as all profits would go to Viva Palestine Malaysia to fuel hospitals, medical supplies, shelter and food.

She shared a photo of her, as well as others who were donning the Palestine scarf designs, where in her posting, she said everyone can show their support in many ways.
