KUALA TERENGGANU - Umno Terengganu will submit a list of names to the central leadership to determine the candidate representing the party in the Kemaman by-election on Dec 2.

State Umno Liaison Committee chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Said said that several candidates have been thoroughly screened and deemed suitable for consideration by the party's top leadership.

"Preparations for the by-election would also be detailed out in a meeting that will be arranged by central Umno soon.

"Questions regarding campaign strategy, candidates, and other necessary preparations will be discussed later, and the Umno state will ensure that all campaign strategies run smoothly," he said when contacted.

He also added that his party has made preparations to address any possible flooding during that period.

"We are also making thorough flood preparations. This is to ensure that the campaign can be carried out and voters can fulfil their responsibility to vote on Dec 2," he said.

The Election Commission (EC) announced on Tuesday that the candidate nomination day for the Kemaman by-election is scheduled for Nov 18, with early voting on Nov 28, and the polling day has been set for Dec 2.

The Kemaman by-election was triggered after the Terengganu Election Court, on Sept 26, nullified the victory of Che Alias Hamid, representing Pas, after the petitioner, Wan Mohamad Hisham Wan Abdul Jalil (a voter), successfully proved that an act of corruption had taken place with the aim of influencing voters in the 15th General Election (GE15).
