Pas chooses Selangor for Muktamar as a grateful nod to key supporters

"We've selected Selangor for the Muktamar to express our gratitude for the remarkable results here, where Pas secured victory in 11 state seats.
“To be honest, we were quite surprised that we couldn't win Selangor. Selangor, along with Pahang and Perak, has always been our target," said its Deputy President Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man during a press conference after officiating the Pas Youth's 64th Muktamar.
Collectively, Pas, along with Perikatan Nasional (PN), won a total of 22 out of 54 seats in Selangor during the August 12 state polls.
Another reason for choosing Selangor, he explained, was that the party would also conduct its internal elections during this year's Muktamar.
"Normally, when there are internal party elections, we choose a neutral state rather than one governed by PAS. It's more impartial that way," Tuan Ibrahim said.
Regarding upcoming delegate discussions, he expected the primary topics to revolve around the ongoing Palestine-Israel conflicts and economic issues.
"Because the Muktamar is taking place while the 2024 Budget is still being debated in Parliament, I believe most of our delegates will also discuss matters related to the cost of living.
“In addition, we will also focus on strengthening the party's unity and solidarity.
“We have one million members, but in both the 15th General Election and the August state polls, PN received a total of three million votes.
“This shows that two million voters supported us. Our main challenge now is winning non-Malay voters," Tuan Ibrahim said.
He argued that Pas’s difficulty in attracting non-Malay votes was due to fear-mongering tactics used by its political opponents.
"They are haunted by false images of Pas's rule in Kedah, Kelantan, and Terengganu. I believe Pas needs to engage more with non-Malays to dispel such perceptions," Tuan Ibrahim said.
