PUTRAJAYA - Perbadanan PR1MA Malaysia (PR1MA), is expected to complete 9,500 affordable housing units by the end of December, according to Local Government Development (KPKT) Minister Nga Kor Ming.

In a statement today, Nga said he paid a working visit to PR1MA's headquarters in Petaling Jaya last Friday and was briefed by PR1MA chairman Datuk Azrulnizam Abdul Aziz and the management of the largest affordable housing developer.

"I was also informed that PR1MA will complete all the 24 sick projects taken over from the previous government,” he said.

During the visit, Nga was also briefed on the provision of 53,646 PR1MA housing units across the country, focusing on community development from various aspects such as well-being and safety, socio-economic factors and social development for residents.

On May 15, Nga was reported as saying the Ministry of Local Government Development would ensure that there would be no more "sick” PR1MA Corporation Malaysia (PR1MA) projects by next year.

Nga said the ministry was committed to building 500,000 affordable houses by 2025 under the 12th Malaysian Plan (12MP).

These homes will be built based on five key principles: Accessibility, Affordability, Connectivity, Strong Community and Sustainability to meet the housing needs of the present and the future, he said.

Since the establishment of the Task Force on Sick and Abandoned Private Housing Projects (TFST), the ministry has rescued 256 housing projects with a market value of RM23.37 billion. - BERNAMA
