'Serendah waterfall murkiness first incident of its kind'MOHD IZZATUL IZUAN TAHIR
HULU SELANGOR - A company conducting land works in the Serendah area is still trying to locate the site of a soil collapse that has caused the Serendah Waterfall to become murky for the past five days.
The Hulu Selangor Municipal Council president Mohd Hasry Nor Mohd said the location of the soil collapse occurred three kilometres from the waterfall.
He added that the company responsible needs time to reach the site, as they need to navigate through rivers and forests.
"The river water remains murky, especially during this unsettled weather," Mohd Hasry said when contacted by Sinar today.
He said that the company is still subject to the approval of the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA).
He added that the Hulu Selangor Municipal Council has directed the company to carry out repair work and short-term mitigation measures to prevent mud from entering the river.
Mohd Hasry said the sustained murkiness in the Serendah Waterfall is the first incident, and there have been no previous cases.
He added that a compound action has been taken against the company under Section 71 of Act 133 for failing to control the construction site, resulting in mud flow into the public and government reserve.
Previously, the Hulu Selangor Municipal Council said it had received two complaints from the public regarding the Serendah Waterfall turning murky and mud entering the public road reserve on the Kuala Lumpur - Ipoh route (FT01) on Thursday.
The statement from the Hulu Selangor Municipal Council indicated that the investigation on-site found the effects of water flow contributing to the turbidity of the nearby river and an increase in surface water resulting in overflowing water on FT01 road.
