KUALA LUMPUR - The Malaysian Islamic Organisations Consultative Council (Mapim) has demanded that the United Nations (UN) take decisive action against Israel for its campaign of genocide in Gaza and the West Bank.

Mapim president Mohd Azmi Abdul Hamid said in a statement today the UN must enforce international laws on war crimes and mass murder committed by Israel.

He said instead of heeding the calls for a ceasefire Israel is increasing bombings on civilians in Gaza which has now killed more than 5,000 people, with nearly half of them children.

According to him, the UN seems powerless to force the only border crossing in Rafah to be opened to allow humanitarian aid to be delivered to the two million Gazans.

In the meantime, Mohd Azmi stated that the presence of UN troops to maintain security and protect civilians is more pressing than ever.

"The responsibility of the UN to safeguard peace in Gaza is extremely urgent. The lives of civilians in Gaza and the West Bank are now in the hands of the UN,” read the statement. - BERNAMA
