Dataran Perayaan more suitable venue for state-level solidarity gathering - S'wak Minister

KUCHING - Sarawak Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Ministry has proposed Dataran Perayaan, near the Sarawak State Stadium, here as the venue for holding a Palestine solidarity gathering in the state.
Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said it is a far more appropriate venue for bringing together Sarawakians who come from various religious and ethnic backgrounds.
"The Palestine issue is not a religious problem. It is a struggle to free their homeland...we understand that those who support the cause come from various religions, not just Islam.
"I will approve if the organisers wish to hold the solidarity gathering at Dataran Perayaan because it is under my ministry,” he told reporters at the Baitulmakmur II building, here, today.
He was commenting on the issue that has gone viral on social media involving a Palestine solidarity gathering which was supposed to take place on Sunday at Masjid India Kuching but was cancelled due to security concerns.
However, Abdul Karim said the ministry has no information on whether the organisers had obtained the necessary permit to host the event. - BERNAMA
