KUALA LUMPUR - The area around Jaya Industrial Park, Ara Damansara in Petaling Jaya, which was closed to the public following an ammonia gas leak at an ice factory last night, has now been reopened to the public.

Petaling Jaya district police chief ACP Mohamad Fakhrudin Abdul Hamid confirmed the reopening, stating this was after pollution index readings returned to normal levels at 5.30pm today.

"Periodic monitoring will continue to be carried out by Petaling Jaya police mobile patrol vehicles,” he said in a statement.

The police had earlier announced the closure of an area of about 400 square meters to the public due to pollution index readings exceeding 200 particles per million (ppm), specifically 240 ppm inside the factory and around 200 ppm in the surrounding area.

The police received a MERS 999 call about the incident at 10.17pm yesterday and rushed to the scene, assisted by 27 firefighters. - BERNAMA
