SHAH ALAM - The Education Ministry must prepare a detailed guideline for schools including education institutions regarding the implementation of the Palestine Solidarity Week programme.

Pas secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan said excessive programmes tentative should be avoided to avoid negative perceptions of Islam.

He said a total of 12 PKR representatives had used several terms such as vengeance, hate and violence after a video circulated on social media which showed students and teachers carrying toy weapons with a message of violence.

“The PKR representatives need to be careful in givinf an overview of Palestinian’s struggle so that they do not sabotage the good efforts of the Education Ministry which gives exposure to the students about the issue and Malaysia’s stance on it.

“The use of negative terms could not only be misunderstood, but it also seems to want to extend the narrative and prejudice of western media that supports the Israeli apartheid regime when referring to the struggle of the Palestinian people.

“The Education Ministry must step forward and prepare guidelines regarding the programme,” he said on Pas’s Facebook on Monday.

On Oct 28, 12 MPs including assemblymen urged the education ministry to review its decision to hold the Palestine Solidarity Week in schools and public education institutions.

Among the MPs who voiced the matter were Gopeng MP Tan Kar Hing, Petaling Jaya MP Lee Chean Chung and Miri MP Chiew Choon Man.

Takiyuddin also said Pas fully supported the efforts done by parties in protecting humanitarian rights whether in Palestine, Myanmar or any other nation.

He said they would continue to emulate the struggle of Prophet Muhammad SAW in the core of the leadership, especially to deal with the issues of justice, peace, rights and honour.

“We believe that independence, freedom and a dignified life are the absolute rights granted by God to all beings regardless of skin colour, religious belief, locality or economic and social status,” he said.
