The cast of 'Friends' have broken their silence following the shocking death of their beloved co-star, Matthew Perry.

In a joint statement, Jennifer Anniston, Courtney Cox, David Schwimmer, Lisa Kudrow and Matt LeBlanc wrote: "We are all so utterly devastated by the loss of Matthew. We were more than just cast mates. We are a family.

"There is so much to say, but right now we're going to take a moment to grieve and process this unfathomable loss," adding that they will say more in time.

"For now, our thoughts and our love are with Matty's family, his friends, and everyone who loved him around the world."

Perry, 54, was found dead at his home in Los Angeles, where he allegedly drowned in his jacuzzi.

The police say there were no obvious signs of foul play at the scene, however his cause of death has been listed as "deferred" for now until toxicology tests are completed, which could take weeks.

Perry was known for his role as Chandler Bing in 'Friends' and received an Emmy nomination in 2002, for his outstanding performance.

It was well-known that the chemistry between the group stretched beyond their on-screen friendship, as they remained close even after the show ended in 2004.
