SUNGAI PETANI - Two boys drowned in a shrimp pond near Kampung Sungai Emas Hujung, Kota Kuala Muda at around 2pm today.

The victim Muhammad Aidil Adha Mohd Ali, five, and his cousin Muhammad Syafiq Amsyar Abdul Syahid, three, were noticed missing while playing around the pond near their house.

However, a search around the house found no glimpse of them before the father of one of the children came to realisation that the victims might have fallen into the water.

The second search eventually found the two victims who were then taken to Kota Kuala Muda Clinic for further treatment.

However, both of them were later confirmed dead.

Meanwhile, Kuala Muda district police chief, Assistant Commissioner Zaidy Che Hassan confirmed that he had received a report on the tragedy.

He informed that the bodies had been sent to Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital (HSB), Alor Setar for post-mortem and that the case was classified as sudden death.
