ALOR SETAR - Kedah DAP chairman Tan Kok Yew has lambasted the state's Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor for suggesting that the redelineation of electoral constituencies only benefits the government.

He argued that redelineation was meant to realise the principle of fairness to voters and should not give the government an advantage in winning votes.

Redelineation adds value to every vote and benefits the people, he said.

"It is not about favouring the ruling party; instead, it has to be ensured that the people receive fair and equitable representation from their elected representatives," he told Sinar Harian.

His comments were following Sanusi's statement that redelineation of electoral constituencies was expected to happen this term and should not provide an advantage to parties under the Unity Government.

While delivering his closing speech at the 69th Pas Annual Muktamar, the Pas election director urged Pas members to take note of the matter and ensure that redelineation is under the control of the party.

He also added that the Unity Government must be brought down by any means.

Additionally, Tan criticised Pas president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang's statement that the "Madani Government is filled with filth." "Statements like these show that Pas leaders are full of vindictiveness. I want to ask, who is the 'filth' they are referring to? “Is the Pas president indirectly insulting Yang di-Pertuan Agong and the Council of Rulers for endorsing the existing government?" he asked.

Furthermore, he said PAS and Perikatan Nasional's (PN) efforts to overthrow the existing government show the party's greed, neglecting the Federal Constitution and the people's mandate.

"Let's not suffer as we did after the Sheraton move. I hope DAP members will not behave like that.

"We uphold the principles of the Constitution and the Rukun Negara. We must set an example and spread the spirit and values of harmony in our diverse society so that Malaysia remains harmonious, peaceful, and progressive," he added.

Tan said that the spirit of Malaysia Madani introduced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is a comprehensive effort to make all plans for Malaysia more humane and universal.

"Our goal is to transform Malaysia into a more prosperous and advanced country through mutual trust, transparency, and strong cooperation among all parties in the Unity Government, including the opposition, to uphold the Constitution and parliamentary democracy.

“This is not the time to fight," he said.

Kok Yew also criticised the state government led by Sanusi, which he viewed as more inclined to be in conflict with the federal government on various issues.

"Kedah should not adopt an adversarial attitude with neighbouring states (Penang) or the federal government.

“Show a high spirit of federalism to ensure we all win together with neighbouring states and obtain federal assistance to boost the state's economic industry," he said.
