Setting conditions on allocations not corruption - Bersih
SHAH ALAM - The government's action to put conditions on allocations to opposition members of Parliament (MPs) is not considered corruption; instead, it is an injustice because it prevents their right to carry out their responsibilities to the people.
Coalition for Free and Fair Elections (Bersih 2.0) Chairman Thomas Fann said that allocations must be promptly disbursed for the well-being of the people and the nation.
He said the government to honour the choices made by voters, emphasising that it is now the responsibility of opposition MPs to reciprocate this trust.
"The government should not use the allocation to attract the support of opposition members of Parliament. We also do not agree that it is bound by conditions.
"I do not consider it corruption because it is included in the negotiation of understanding or confidence and supply agreement (CSA), which is a political mechanism between the government and other parties," he told Sinar Harian.
On Monday, Arau MP Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim alleged that the government, by imposing conditions on allocations to opposition MPs, is inadvertently encouraging corruption.
