KUALA LUMPUR - Pas is using the issue of the the Palestinians' hardships to showcase the party's strength by belittling the government's efforts.

Amanah vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Mujahid Yusof Rawa said the Palestinian issue should be a platform for the unity of Malaysians against the actions of the Zionist regime, rather than a means to determine who was 'more Islamic' than others.

Mujahid said Pas and the opposition have excessively politicised the issue, including using the Palestinian Solidarity Week in schools for political purposes.

"The issue of humanity and the mass killing of the people of Palestinian in Gaza is a collective concern.

"Unfortunately, Pas is dragging the Malaysians into a competition to prove their superiority in defending Palestine by belittling others, even though the Malaysian government is resolute and in solidarity with Gaza.

"Pas and the opposition have overly politicised the situation, revealing their narrow-mindedness on the Palestinian issue," Mujahid said in a statement posted on his Facebook page today.

On Tuesday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim criticised the actions of Pas Ulama Council chief Ahmad Yahya for accusing Putrajaya of being apologetic in its stance on the Palestinian struggle.

Calling Ahmad 'uncivilised', Anwar stressed that the government has always been unwavering in its support for Palestine, in contrast to Ahmad's claims, which were published in an article by Harakahdaily on Monday.
