KEMAMAN – Pas president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang is seen as feeling threatened when he says that elderly voters who support Barisan Nasional (BN) does not understand politics.

DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke said Pas knows BN had strong supporters who were difficult to break through.

"Voters who are used to living in this area (Kemaman) are more loyal to BN. If they make statements like that, maybe they feel threatened in terms of their chances of winning.

"However, I think young voters will also not necessarily support Pas candidates. Other factors are taken into consideration and looking at the political stability today.

"The important thing is that this by-election does not change the government, it only elects a Member of Parliament and the Federal Government is stable," he said when contacted by Sinar after meeting voters at Sekolah Kebangsaan Lok Khoon, Kemasik last night.

In a speech in Kijal on Wednesday night, Hadi said there were a group of elderly voters who still did not want to support Pas compared to young voters in the previous election.

The Marang MP however asked the Pas machinery to continue to persuade them.

Loke added that with the presence of parliamentarians from the government, it would help the development in Kemaman.

"There is no other party in Terengganu, it is only controlled by Pas. So, at the Parliament level or State Legislative Assembly (DUN), it's the same.

"In any democracy, it is not healthy if there is no competition at all. I hope that Kemaman voters support the candidate of the unity government so that we can bring a difference in Kemaman.

"Unity government’s winning in Kemaman will also bring competition and pressure to the state government," he said.
