Pendang MP reveals threatening call from Bukit Gantang MP in Dewan Rakyat

SHAH ALAM - Pendang MP Datuk Awang Solahuddin Hashim (Perikatan Nasional) has asserted that he received threats from Datuk Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal (PN-Bukit Gantang) and the latter's family.

Speaking in the Dewan Rakyat today, Awang claimed to have received a threatening phone call from Syed Abu Hussin two days ago.

However, he refrained from providing further details after Dewan Rakyat Tan Sri Speaker Johari Abdul requested him to submit a motion on the matter, as the alleged incident did not occur today.

"I will file the motion stating that I was threatened by Bukit Gantang and his family at that time. I don't mind; I have to face it.

"I'm just concerned that we may get distracted as there are still many unresolved issues in Parliament. MPs need to be given protection," Awang said.

Earlier, Awang raised Standing Order 95 and proceeded to read out Section 9 of the Houses of Parliament (Privileges and Powers) Act 1952 (Act 347).

"Who is threatening whom?," asked Johari.

"I do not know what is happening; the honorable member (referring to Awang) needs to present concrete evidence and I will investigate.

"The honorable member is referring to the (MP) for Bukit Gantang under Act 123 and is requesting the Speaker to decide before any action can be taken," Johari advised.

Meanwhile, Johari said that he was not aware of Awang's allegations and suggested submitting a motion for his consideration.

"I need to conduct an investigation; such statements in the Parliament cannot be made lightly. I request the honorable member to submit a motion," he said.

Agreeing with this advice, Awang responded that he would make such a motion to Johari.

"I want to inform you first regarding being threatened by the (MP) for Bukit Gantang and his family at that time," Awang explained.

Yesterday, chaos erupted in the Dewan Rakyat as several Opposition MPs took the opportunity to slam the actions of Syed Abu Hussin, who openly declared support for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's leadership.

The debate on the Financial Bill (No. 2) 2023 was delayed for about 20 minutes after Awang claimed that Syed Abu Hussin made such a decision due to hidden motives.

"We are involved in the 'black economy,' causing us to lose sources of income, as happened in Bukit Gantang (Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz).

"He has problems and wants to lobby for the continuation of his projects supplied to the military. Because of that, he is looking for a 'shield' for protection. So now he jumps here and there; he was once a member of Umno, Independent and then kneeled before the Bersatu resident (Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin) to become a candidate. We (Bersatu) believed in him," he said yesterday.
