BESUT - The Besut District Social Welfare Department (JKM) is appealing for information on the whereabouts of the biological mother of a baby girl who was abandoned at the Universiti Sains Malaysia (HUSM) Hospital, Kubang Kerian, Kelantan on Sept 10.

According to Besut district Social Welfare Officer Zulbahri Ibrahim, the baby's biological mother is identified as Wan Azlina Wan Mohamad, 30, whose last known address is in Kampung Padang Landak, Jertih, Terengganu.

"JKM Besut received a referral from HUSM regarding a baby girl born prematurely on Sept 10.

"Subsequent investigations revealed that the baby's biological mother had disappeared after the baby was admitted to the ward due to health issues," Zulbahri said.

On Nov 23, the Besut District Magistrate's Court issued an order under Section 25(2) of the Child Act 2001, placing the baby in the care of an institution until further notice.

Members of the public who have any information regarding Wan Azlina's whereabouts are urged to contact the Besut Social Welfare Office Protector, Noradawiah Ab Manaf, at 09-6956042 or 09-6953951.
