SINAR DAILY REPORTER
SHAH ALAM - The country has recorded 15,327 active Covid-19 cases as of Dec 3.
The Health Ministry reported a significant 57.3 per cent surge in Covid-19 cases, recording 3,626 cases during the 47th epidemiological week (ME47/2023) from Nov 19 to 25, in contrast to 2,305 cases in ME46/2023 (Nov 12-18).
Health Director-General Datuk Dr Muhammad Radzi Abu Hassan said 48 per cent of the cases involved individuals aged between 20 to 40 and 98 per cent exhibited only mild symptoms.
Dr Radzi also highlighted the consistent increase in weekly cases, ranging from 7.1 per cent to 57.3 per cent between ME41/2023 and ME47/2023.
Meanwhile, Universiti Malaya virologist Sazaly Abu Bakar, quoted by Berita Harian, suggested that the actual number of Covid-19 cases might be higher, estimating it could stand at 5,000 to 10,000 a week.
Former deputy health minister Dr Lee Boon Chye urged the government to closely monitor the Covid-19 situation, especially concerning new variants, admissions, and deaths.
While acknowledging the ongoing spectacle of Covid-19, Lee stressed that, with 98 per cent of cases experiencing only mild symptoms, there was currently no need for the government to impose additional preventive measures, reported Free Malaysia Today.
