ROMPIN - A five-year-old boy is feared to have drowned after falling into the river in a flooded residential area in Simpang Sepayang, Kuala Rompin here on Monday.

The victim, Rizq Ramadhina Jamaluddin, is believed to have fallen while fishing with his three other siblings at a jetty near their home.

Rompin District Police Chief, Deputy Superintendent Mohd Azahari Mukhtar said, the incident was reported at about 5.25pm ​​before the search and rescue (SAR) operation was mobilised.

According to him, the SAR operation was attended by 134 members of various agencies including, the police, the fire department, the Civil Defense Force (APM), army and Marine Police Force.

"Also helping were officers from the Fisheries Department, Rompin Charity Department volunteers, and villagers.

"A total of 18 boats were used in the operation in addition to the assistance of the Fire Department's Detection Dog Unit (K9)," he said when contacted on Wednesday.

Mohd Azahari said that the search operation was also carried out in the water by diving at the location where the victim was reported to have fallen.

"The operation on Tuesday was delayed for about an hour at 7pm before it resumed today (Wednesday)," he said.
