SHAH ALAM - In a refreshing display of transparency, Health Minister Datuk Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad's recent press conference on the Covid-19 surge drew mixed reactions online.

While some praised his direct address of public concerns, others critiqued his reliance on Health Director-General Datuk Dr Muhammad Radzi Abu Hassan for specific details.

However, political analysts believed Dr Dzulkefly's approach reflects a welcome shift in leadership.

Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman political analyst Afi Roshezry Abu Bakar commended the minister's willingness to involve his expert.

"This isn't about him knowing everything

"It's about getting citizens the accurate, detailed information they deserve," Afi told Sinar Daily.

He went on to highlight that this collaborative approach was not unique. "Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek also utilises her Director-General for specific matters.

"The responsibility ultimately lies with the minister, but relying on the expertise within their ministry shows trust and a commitment to informed decision-making," Afi pointed out.

Some netizens voiced frustration with the shift from the previous minister's style.

Comparisons to Khairy Jamaluddin's more centralised approach surfaced, with some even calling for his return.

However, commentators like Afi urged patience.

"Matters pertaining to Covid-19 surge in the country is a complex issue. "Expecting one person to have all the answers is unrealistic.

"This government is prioritising transparency and collaboration, and that might look different than what we're used to," he added.

During Dr Dzulkefly's press conference on the Covid-19 surge, some netizens compared him to Khairy, suggesting a handover of the ministry back to Khairy.

Questions were raised about why the Health Minister allowed his Director-General to answer some questions if he could not answer them himself.

Despite the criticism, some netizens commended Dr Dzulkefly for addressing confusion related to the Covid-19 surge in the country through the press conference.

Dr Dzulkefly said that the conference was to address people's concerns, as many had tagged him and his ministry on social media with questions.
