SHAH ALAM - An adjustment in water tariff rates will be implemented under the Tariff Setting Mechanism (TSM) for domestic users in Peninsular Malaysia and the Federal Territory of Labuan, effective from Feb 1.

The National Water Services Commission (SPAN), in a statement, announced that the adjustment involves an average increase of 22 cents per cubic meter.

"This increase is still low and cannot cover the actual cost of providing water supply services, which is RM1.75 per cubic metre based on the actual 2022 records.

"However, to minimize the impact of the increase on the monthly water bills of the public, water supply operators in each state are advised to continue their existing initiatives, such as providing targeted assistance to domestic users, such as rebates for the B40 group," said the commission today.
