MACC issues notice to Tun M's son to declare assets
10 witnesses called in MACC's ongoing investigation of Pandora and Panama Papers
PUTRAJAYA - The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has issued a notice of order to the son of former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Mirzan to declare his assets within 30 days.
In a statement, MACC said that Mirzan, who is also a businessman, appeared at the MACC Headquarters in Putrajaya at 9.30am on Wednesday to aid an ongoing investigation.
"A notice order has been issued to him under Section 36(1)(b) of the MACC Act 2009, requiring him to declare all movable and immovable assets in his possession, whether inside or outside the country, within 30 days from the date of the notice.
"This order is a continuation of the MACC's investigation into information in the Panama Papers report and his business activities involving the sale and purchase of government-linked companies (GLCs)," the statement said on Thursday.
The statement added that the investigation was conducted under the MACC Act 2009 and the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing, and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001 (AMLATFPUAA).
According to the statement, MACC has been conducting an investigation since August 2022 into all entities related and named in the Pandora Papers and Panama Papers reports.
"So far, 10 witnesses have been called for the purpose of recording statements.
"MACC is reviewing financial documents and the ownership of assets of the entities listed in these reports, and the investigation is still actively underway," the statement said.
