Najib’s pardon bid: Meeting held yesterday, wait for official statement – Minister
It is believed that the meeting was the last official gathering for the 16th King before the conclusion of his reign today.
SHAH ALAM - The Pardons Board is expected to issue a statement on jailed former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak's application for a royal pardon.
English daily The Star reported that Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories) Dr Zaliha Mustafa confirmed that she attended the Pardons Board meeting held at Istana Negara yesterday and an official statement by the Board was expected to be issued.
"Wait for an official statement by (the) Pardons Board," she told the reporters today.
She, however, did not provide further details on the matter.
It is believed that the meeting was to be the last official gathering for Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah before the conclusion of his reign today.
Dr Zaliha said the meeting had been postponed several times before.
Najib is currently imprisoned for 12 years due to his conviction for abuse of power, criminal breach of trust and money laundering.
The charges were related to the misappropriation of RM42 million from SRC International, a former subsidiary of 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB).
He also faces accusations of abusing power for personal financial gain, totalling RM2.28 billion, which is suspected to involve funds from 1MDB.
