Police Inspector remanded
TUMPAT - A police officer with the rank of Inspector has been remanded for a week starting today to assist in the investigation after being suspected of raping the complainant who came to file a report at his office at the Tumpat district police headquarters here on Sunday.
Magistrate Wan Ashrul Afham Mohamad Azmi issued the remand order for the inspector, who is an investigating officer, at the Tumpat Magistrate's Court today.
The remand order allows the officer to be investigated under Section 376 of the Penal Code.
The lawyer representing the police officer Mohd Firdaus Zainal Abidin, opposed the remand application for his client during the remand proceedings.
However, the court ordered the remand of the inspector for seven days for further investigation.
