RANAU - The damaged and potholed road at Kilometre 8 Kampung Kinarasan here has caused concern among residents who use the road daily to commute to and from Pekan Ranau.

Moreover, this route is the only main road connecting the Ranau and Tambunan districts.

Kampung Poropot resident, Charls Dodee, 26, said that the road's deterioration has been ongoing for the past three years and has worsened, especially during the rainy season.

"The condition of this road used to be good, but for the past three years, the road surface has started to deteriorate and develop potholes along a stretch of about 25 metres towards Tambunan.

"Complaints have been made, but only sand is scattered on the road. Moreover, the road condition worsens during the rain when the scattered sand makes the route more uneven," he told Sinar on Friday.

Charls added that the condition of the road poses a danger to road users, especially at night.

"When it rains, water accumulates and some users are not familiar with the route and unaware of the depth of the potholes.

"This not only damages vehicles but can also cause accidents if users drive fast in the area.

"Additionally, this area is near a cliff, and it is feared that the road damage may cause victims to veer off and fall into the cliff," he said.

He frequently used the route to commute to Pekan Ranau.

Therefore, Charls hopes that immediate action can be taken to maintain the potholed area for the safety and comfort of users who travel on the route daily.
