ALOR SETAR - Kedah state has never, through any of its agencies, issued a permit or approval for the controversial concert known as the 'Choii Underground Music Tour Kedah 2.0', which was held at Taman Jubli Emas here on the night of Nisfu Syaaban.

Kedah Housing, Local Government, and Health, Major (Retired) State Executive Councillor, Mansor Zakaria said that there was an application submitted to the state government but the application did not specify a proposal for a concert or stage performance of that nature.

He said the organisers applied to hold a sales carnival and permitted events according to the state government's guidelines and only that application was approved.

"Therefore, the organisation of the concert is without the permission of any state government agency, and this is a serious violation of the conditions by the organisers.

"The state government will call upon the organisers to explain this matter and will decide on further action according to the law thereafter," he said in a statement on Sunday night.

He made these remarks in response to the organisation of a concert held at Taman Jubli Emas here on Saturday night, which received various reactions from netizens on social media for not respecting the night of Nisfu Syaaban.

Mansor said that any party that violated the conditions after being granted approval to organise an event would be blacklisted from participating in any programmes in the state in the future.

In the meantime, the 'Choii Underground Music Tour Kedah 2.0' organiser Faris Azrii also apologised through a video on his TikTok page.

He emphasised the issue that occurred on the night of Nisfu Syaaban was due to their oversight.

"I acknowledge that what occurred was solely our error and did not involve any government entity. I sincerely apologise to the Kedah government for this mistake.

“Regarding the recent criticism, I also extend my apologies for introducing hip-hop to the land of Kedah. It's essential to note that the incident occurred on Friday, not Saturday.

“Additionally, we organised a concert and I take responsibility for that mistake as well," he said.
