KOTA KINABALU - Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (Gagasan Rakyat) Information Chief Datuk Nizam Abu Bakar has slammed Warisan President Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal's statement regarding their reluctance to establish cooperation for the upcoming State Election.

Speaking to reporters, Nizam acknowledged that Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) under Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor's leadership is currently the target of the Opposition's criticism.

"It seems they are intent on remaining in the Opposition, rejecting all positive efforts made by the GRS-Pakatan Harapan (PH) plus government, which has notably improved Sabah's economic landscape.

"Therefore, we are not inclined to collaborate with them," he told reporters during a breaking-of-fast event at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) yesterday.

Earlier reports stated that Shafie declined cooperation with GRS due to the coalition's recruitment of 11 representatives from his party.

When questioned about potential discussions between GRS and Umno-Barisan Nasional (BN) for collaboration, Nizam, who also serves as the State Assemblyman for Apas, stated that GRS remains open to various possibilities but refrains from engaging in Umno's purported plans to ally with Warisan.

"I prefer not to comment on Umno and Warisan affairs as it concerns their respective parties. It is their prerogative to decide on their alliances.

"What's paramount now is focusing on state development, as we still have a year and a half to implement planned programmes beneficial to the people and the state of Sabah," he stressed.
