RAMALLAH - The Palestinian presidency welcomed the successive United States (US) statements calling for an end to the Israeli aggression and cautioning Israel against attacking the city of Rafah given the possibility of unprecedented civilian casualties.

Palestine News Agency (WAFA) reported that the presidency emphasised the importance of these US statements, especially what was said by the US Vice President, Kamala Harris that all options are on the table.

Also, the US Secretary of Defence Lloyd Austin said on Tuesday that protecting Palestinian civilians from harm is a moral and strategic necessity, describing the situation in Gaza as a humanitarian catastrophe.

The presidency also stressed the importance of what the US ambassador had done at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) of abstaining from voting, which led to the adoption of a resolution by the Council that called for a ceasefire.

The presidency considered it a step in the right direction and emphasised the importance of what the US presidential candidate Trump stated that Israel is losing support and must finish up the war.

The presidency stressed that these positions confirm the validity of the Palestinian position announced by President Mahmoud Abbas on the first day of the aggression regarding the need to stop the aggression and the necessity of creating an atmosphere leading to a political horizon that ends the problems of the region and the world. - BERNAMA
